Presenting (And Giving Away) "Evangelical Theology": A Systematic Theology Written By A Biblical Scholar
We are pleased to present to you the systematic theology volume by Michael Bird, Evangelical Theology, releasing today in print and ebook.
For weeks we've talked about this highly anticipated unique book written by a New Testament Bible scholar who places the "evangel" at the center of his theology. He introduced his new book; explained why a biblical scholar like him would write a systematic theology; and explained what he says is the point to studying systematic theology in the first place.
When Bird began teaching theology several years ago and went looking for a textbook, he imagined a book that set up the whole theological project by articulating the gospel; a book that related all of the major subtopics of theology to the gospel; and a book that "oozed" gospel.
As he explains, "The more I began to think about it the more this became the book I wanted to write, not just find." Furthermore, Bird says he wanted to write a systematic theology book, "because at the end of the day just to repeat what the text says is not enough. You've got to ask the important questions: So what? What difference does this make? What can we take away from this?"
Evangelical Theology represents everything Bird was searching for in a theology textbook. It has been crafted from the perspective of a biblical scholar with the guiding conviction that the center, boundaries, and "interpretive glue" of the evangelical faith is the evangel, the gospel—as opposed to doctrines like justification by faith or inerrancy.
The text features tables, sidebars, and questions. Every part ends with a "What to Take Home" section that gives learners a run-down on what they should know. The author even applies his unique sense of humor in occasional "Comic Belief" sections designed to add some humor to an oft-dry endeavor. University students, interested Christians, and pastors alike will appreciate this new, fresh contribution to the study of systematic theology.
Not only are we pleased to present and release to you this volume today, we're also excited to give you the opportunity to win one of 25 copies for your own personal library!
