How Does the Rest of the World View Inerrancy? (Video with Michael Bird)
(Can't see the video? Watch it here)
Biblical inerrancy continues to be a hot topic, particular in North America. But what about the rest of the world? Michael Bird, contributor to Five Views on Biblical Inerrancy, provides an international perspective.
Bird says you notice a few things when you consider inerrancy from a global perspective:
- The word inerrancy does not appear all that often
- You can find similar language—for instance, the Lusanne Conference uses “without error”
- Generally, the main grammar used in English speaking places are words like “infallible” and “authoritative”
- What’s important is that God’s Word is true and trustworthy.
Throughout the rest of the video, Bird explores the main tenets of the international view, as well as important factors that shaped his own view of biblical inerrancy. He also considers how the conversation will work itself out into the future, hoping for “a robust statement about the veracity of Scripture.”
