Wednesday Giveaway - Four Views on the Apostle Paul
In the Catholic tradition, Peter and Paul share a feast day – and more than once I have heard Catholic friends explain that this is to show that the Church’s first pastor and the Church’s first theologian are to be held in equal regard.
Yet it is worth noting that such a statement does betray the assumption that “Christian theologian” is the best way to think about Paul, one of many details about the Apostle that is by no means agreed upon.
Could we not, after all, also find perspectives on Paul that seem him first as a missionary of a new covenant, or pastor, or Jewish theologian who encountered the messiah? In recent years it has seemed that everything is on the table when it comes to our understanding of Paul, as we debate not only what he taught by even why he taught.
Shedding light on these debates about Paul is the goal of this week’s giveaway, Four Veiws on the Apostle Paul. Compiled by Michael Bird, this new Counterpoints volume features a Reformed View from Thomas R. Schreiner, a Catholic View from Luke Timothy Johnson, a Post-New Perspective View from Douglas Campbell, and a Jewish View from Mark D. Nanos.
The book is not out until the end of the month, so this is your chance to be one of the first in line to receive a copy. To get a good sense of the book, check out this extended look video,
